Shima
Shima is a 28 year old Bangladeshi American New Yorker. She loves coffee, hates the MTA, and spends her time spitting out her thoughts on paper, and talking. Alot. Shima studied Biology and was on the “typical” road to med school in undergrad but her love of English, psychology, language, literature, and creative writing often pushed her towards many different paths. As South Asian representation improves in media, she noticed there was a lack of discussion on mental health issues desis living in the diaspora deal with. From personal experience, discussions with her podcast co-creator, and a whole ton of online research, this podcast slowly went from just an idea between two like-minded friends to a passion.
Tanushree
Tanushree is a 27 year old Queens native who spends a lot of time contemplating the Desi diaspora in small pockets of the world. Her idea of a perfect world is one in which Desis everywhere feel safe and comfortable being open and honest about their wellbeing. A bit of a rebel, she knows that you have to fight to stay you and that being happy in this time starved, body/habit policing culture is a rebellion in itself. Her dream is for Desis everywhere to feel empowered enough to speak up and out for themselves and to stop generational trauma with millennials.
Some of her hobbies and interests include art, swimming, animals, reading, math, engineering, laughing at absurd horoscopes for fun, resisting Adobe software updates, using other people’s names to spell her own long name, making toenail sculptures… whoa, that sentence really got away from her. Tanushree is also a proud former owner of the title “youngest woman in the world.”
